Domain Pricing and sales

So its been an interesting few weeks, if you are active in anything and doing research, I guess things are always interesting. One thing that has really stuck with me over the last couple of months is pricing, and how many domainers come and go. I think we can assume, the ones that left werent making money. Finding the right buyer, and having the only domain they want is rare as hen’s teeth. Your name standing out is tough, and then they still have to like your prices.

Domains are in one sense like art, they are by very definition one of a kind. I don’t know anything about art, but I know its a very tough market. Some of the “greats” pieces are worth so much, and to me some look like a kid drew it. I was looking at a post from Namebio at NP, and what sold and the pricing is just all over the map. Here is the post I refer to Here Its not that different from week to week. Most make sense, but a few decent sales are on names they I dont think I would have regged. One of the names had just dropped, and I tried to get it, but of course it was caught by a service. While it was on my Esitbot drop list, the value they had it appraised at was silly low. Namebio does have a site with the results on their site, and they do a great job, but go look at the results for almost any one listed. I only look at .coms, but on any given day, how many of the names would you even register. And if you did would you price it $1700?

A fair number I’ve seen price most of their names around the $1700 level. I was trying to buy recently and one person wrote me several times offering a large number of names (2k) at about $15 each. Out of that list I only saw a few I thought had any chance of selling (but they do sell them). I dont really understand that sales model. That said not sure my domain “business model” is any better. Most all my names are exact match searched terms with a clear use and would make a decent site. I mean yes words, short catchy, names yes they have good value, but how do you know? I need to look at my list and you will see what I mean we have some good emd .com domains priced really low for an end user, and really feel like a big domainer might buy half my names if we talked a bit.

Just food for thought
