I talk a lot about appraisal and use the list on dotcomworth.com daily. Most of the names I buy I look at the appraisals of 4-5 sites. Sometimes I buy them no matter what they say, and sometimes I really disagree with them. Several of my names (future sites) dont really have much value but they tend to be brandable at least.
I use Esibot’s list daily, the costs are worth to me. I like for them to be in the $2k range, but I dont always get them. I am highly likely to take something in the 4K range, but it has to have some merit. In the 700 range it needs to have some decent search numbers, like a 1000. Like today I got a name I like well enough, and already working on content for it. Godaddy appraised it around $550, so I priced near that level.
This is as good as any place to these thoughts. The people making the best money have a little money and a good feeling for retail values. Buying names in the after market from 2 figures to 4, of course the real players play in my higher levels.
I would start small, from one to ten names. I would have some sort of plan, and most surely a budget. Hopefully as you try to find a name in what ever way, you see “that name” and even know how much you want to sell it for. You also need to decide on which register to use. If you are buying a name from someone, you likely want to get an account where that name is. Like if you brought one from us here at www.4dotcoms.com you would need to sign up at Porkbun or Dynadot, depending on the domain. I dont like using more than two companies, I just forget little lone domains out there. I renewed one recently as I had not turned off auto renew, lol need to go check that name.
More on appraisals. Today I have 12 .coms on my list that will drop today. I found most of these via estibot. When I have my list mostly finalized I like to look over the list and stats with estibot, shows appraisal, searches, bids, and Serp. Then I take the list and check it on humble worth. They have a bulk check feature, and their ideas on values are very different than esibot’s. My point is just how different appraisals are from platform to platform. On the numbers I look at most at humble is marketplace value, one name shows 35k, on the other one is shows 1k. I thought I had a chance at the decent 1k name, but seeing humbleworth’s value that sure lessens my chances. There another on the list, estibot 8k, humble a zero. And there is another where the valuations are so different.
I need to make todays list final, as a couple I haven’t decided. And thats my point of this, Its up to you to decide. You look at a name, you should mostly know, at least when you see if its a highly searched term.
